GULFPORT, MS (WLOX)- The low overnight temperatures meant high numbers seeking refuge at cold weather shelters across the coast.
The Salvation Army in Gulfport was just one shelter that opened its doors to those in need. A total of 39 people stayed the night, but the maximum capacity of the shelter is 65. With that many guests, volunteers play a key role in providing help for those in need.
"We're here to serve and we would certainly like to have you here if you can make it here," said volunteer Al Mayeu.
