Photo Gallery | SLIDESHOW: Community shows support for teen with brain tumor
Students at Vancleave schools, as well as residents in the community, are wearing orange in support of Natalie Hightower.
Monday, the 13-year-old Vancleave Middle School student and cheerleader was scheduled to have a recently discovered brain tumor removed.
"She's in surgery today at USA Children's and Women's Hospital in Mobile, AL," Vancleave Middle School Principal Jill Davis said. "We put information on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter telling everyone to show support of Natalie by wearing her favorite color--orange."
Davis said students from different classes are doing their own thing to honor Hightower.
"Some are donating money to get her something. One of the teachers made a slideshow," Davis explained.
A prayer service was held in honor of Hightower Monday morning before school.
"We start state testing on Tuesday. But on Friday we may do something for Natalie," she added.
